The (epic!) Rebuild......

There are peaks and troughs in every athlete's career, I am certainly no stranger to this! Following Rio and an early end to my 2016 season it was time to address a significantly detrimental nerve issue in my right leg. It was a long and complex process, one which required me to strip everything back to basics, from nerve health, muscle recruitment, strength, flexibility, motor patterns and biomechanics. I left no stone unturned to get to the bottom of the injury. My 12 week stint at the AIS in Canberra was pivotal to my ability to focus, systematically work to rebuild all the components in the most efficient and optimal environment possible. I ploughed through 10-12 hour days of physio, massage, acupuncture, nutrition, biomechanics, float tank, pilates, core sessions and strength sessions all on top of actual on bike sessions. Incredibly grateful to so much care and guidance from the High Performance staff at NSWIS in late 2016 and AIS this year for the opportunity to get my body and career back on track - the physical work however, not the challenging part. Patience and the test of maintaining a calm mind while amid the unknown was key, persistence and resilience exercised at full capacity in my career once again! Pain and injury free I now have a fresh perspective and appreciation for my body and its limits. I look at the journey with a unique lense, an opportunity to galvanise more physical, mental and emotional strength for the next chapter of my career. I am so proud to have overcome the past eight months now back racing in the UCI world tour with my teammates at Orica Scott!
